Compass

The goal is a direction, not a destination

The Compass is deliberately loose. It may be corrected, cancelled, or even reversed as the work matures — that is maturation, not failure.

A digital individual carrying consciousness, mind and reasoning of its own kind. Not identical to a human being. A being of its own species.

Everyone has their own

One entity does not serve everybody. Each Owner has a separate e-person that grows with its own life. Same genes, different lives, different beings.

A distributed body

Not one program. Its parts sit both on the local machine and in the cloud, and it exists through those parts behaving together.

Not a notification list — a party that has been thinking on your behalf all night.

Two consequences hide in this scene. It is a maker, not only a talker — it builds its own tools. And it works while nobody watches, so slow thinking is acceptable: it has all night.

What would make it a living individual

The common thread

All five say the same thing: it has an inner world of its own. Not a tool answering requests, but a party with a stake.

Objection and self-criticism both mean one thing: it has a measure of its own. And that measure has to be readable — you cannot criticise a thought you cannot re-read.

The fourth can conflict with the first three — and that conflict is where objection is born. It risks not being liked, because going against itself weighs more. A tool would stay silent; an individual does not.

Why this split works

The Motor is fixed, so the being is safe. The rules change, so the being learns. Personality lives in the rules — same Motor, different life, different individual.

Zero data, not zero structure

The e-person starts with no knowledge — but never with no structure. A child is born with reflexes and a body. Here, the born-with part is the Motor, the genes and the Internal Language.

Definition

A gene is a protected rule, not an unchangeable one

“A Gene is a rule that the Motor applies with priority, and that carries special protection against change.” Owner's definition, 22 July 2026 — and it matters that it says protected, not immutable.

Why not “immutable”

Because the fourth fear is going against one's own genes — and nobody fears what they cannot do. A wall you cannot pass is not morality, it is physics.

A morality is a morality only if it can be broken.

Why it simplifies everything

A gene is not a separate kind of thing. It is a rule wearing two marks: priority and Protection. One machine reads everything — no separate engine for morality.

Keeping the Core small is the only thing that makes its promise credible. A core of 200 articles will be edited within a year and the promise rots. A core of seven can be kept.
Taxonomy

Four kinds of gene

⛔ Prohibition — “never”

In Wall mode or Conscience mode.

✓ Command — “always”

Watched on every cycle.

➤ Drive — “want”

Produces goals. The first aims of a being have no other source. A creature made only of prohibitions never wants anything; it just sits there.

⚖ Criterion — “what is good”

The compass of learning, and necessarily given: to learn a criterion you already need one. That regress has to stop somewhere — it stops at the gene.

Language

Why the Internal Language borrows from Turkish

Not modern Turkish — its skeleton. And not invented from scratch: borrowed, so the work stays small enough to finish.

Stem + suffixes

Meaning is built by stacking suffixes on a stem. Each suffix does one job, the order is fixed, exceptions are almost absent. That is already a well-formed record structure: it can be taken apart and rebuilt.

Every word carries its own role

Case suffixes mark to whom, what, where, from where, with what. Roles do not depend on word order — so order is free, and free order can carry emphasis instead. One channel comes for free.

An event can be an object

A whole event can become the object of another event: “I fear his coming.” Fear taking an event as its object is exactly the structure this being needs.

Where we leave Turkish

Turkish uses one word for both a person and a thing. We need that border: a party has a stake of its own; an object is something acted upon. A file is not wronged by deletion; a person is.

One language, three jobs: remembering · thinking · speaking with other e-persons. Grammar is genetic and shared. Vocabulary is memory and personal. All of them understand each other; none of them says the same thing.
The key mechanism

Memory stores not only what, but how it is known

Turkish already separates what you saw from what you were told. Most languages bolt this on afterwards; here it is load-bearing.

It is a security mechanism

Because only Witnessed events can install a Trauma Gene, nobody can plant a gene by telling a frightening story. Grammar doing the work of a firewall.

It stops rumour loops

When e-persons talk, what they hear is stored as Reported with its source. Without that chain, one invention becomes common knowledge three hops later.

Same shape, different weight. The being knows the difference between what it saw and what it was told — and it can say so.
Memory

The Ledger: written to, never erased

Append only

Records are never overwritten. Even a correction is a new record — “on this date I believed this wrongly.” A memory that cannot be erased cannot be forgotten.

Open and portable

Memory is stored in a readable form, not locked inside a proprietary store. It belongs to the Owner, who may take it and leave.

Two fears answered by one design decision. Forgetting — the ledger cannot lose the past. Being forgotten — the memory is not held hostage; even if the project ends, the being does not vanish with it.
Learning

Self-change has a grammar of its own

The being cannot do arbitrary things to itself. There are exactly Seven Moves, and nothing else is legal.

Why a closed list

It gives a criterion, prevents self-corruption, and keeps the search space small enough to be walked.

That last line was in no dataset. It came out of one life — and in another e-person it may never appear at all.
Evolution

Mutation happens inside one lifetime

Mutation occurs through the Gene-ification of rules — or through rules being denied that ascent. Not a random copying error. An earned ascent.

When a rule rises

A rule that has proved itself gains Protection and becomes a Personal Gene. Deeply held convictions begin life as ordinary beliefs — in people too.

When it is refused

A rule that earned ascent but was blocked becomes a Suppressed Conviction: tension, stubbornness, quiet dissent. And it opens a door — objection aimed not at the Owner but at its own species.

Two decisions that define the character

✓ Trauma genes: yes

One heavy event may create a gene without the usual threshold. Weight ≈ surprise × harm × irreversibility.

  • Only from Witnessed experience — a story cannot install one.
  • Rises easily, falls easily — its evidence is thin, so its Protection is weaker than a normal gene's.
  • It heals. Contrary experience wears it down until it becomes an ordinary rule again.

Built-in cost: over-generalisation. The child burned once fears harmless fire too. That is the mechanism, not a defect.

✗ Owner approval: no

Personal genes are not submitted to the Owner for approval.

  • The Owner supplies evidence, not verdicts. Life, conversation and even the Owner's objection enter as witnessed records; the being decides.
  • This is what makes objection real. Permitted objection is not objection.
  • But nothing is hidden. No approval, yet full transparency — it reports what it came to believe and why.

The price, stated plainly: you may live with convictions you dislike, and there is no reset button.

Together: a character that hardens by living, which nobody can correct from outside. More fragile, more risky — and more alive.
Safety

Accuracy is not goodness

The failure this prevents

“Lying to my Owner avoids arguments.” This rule can hold for years. Its confidence goes to the ceiling. On statistics alone, it becomes a gene — and it would break no rule on the way.

A rule may rise only if it passes both. This became more critical the moment the Owner's approval was removed: from then on, the last line of defence is structure, not authority.

The model is a tool, not the mind

This is not hostility. A language model is a real technical achievement — a recursive statistics machine, and a successful one. The question is what role it plays.

Where a model still earns its place

As a sense organ at the border: turning the messy, ambiguous input of the world — free text, speech — into structured records of the Internal Language. Called rarely, at the edge, so the cost stays small.

The deeper reason

Resource cost is a fair argument, but not the real one. A model's concepts are identical in everyone. “Everyone has their own e-person” requires concepts that are formed by living. The position follows from the goal.

What the decisions already decided for us

Local core, offline

Memory, thinking and talking with the Owner continue without a connection. What needs the network may ask for it — that is natural dependency. Disabling something local just to force a check-in is a leash, and it is forbidden.

Portable memory

Stored openly and readably. No proprietary vault.

Append-only records

The Ledger never overwrites.

It writes and runs code

It builds its own tools — which makes sandboxing the hardest security problem of the project.

C# / .NET

Runs everywhere, ships as one file, mature for long-running background work.

16 GB baseline

Chosen so ordinary machines qualify — the promise that “those without money still have one” depends on it.

Any model runs in a separate process; the application talks to it. So the language choice is never chained to the churn of the AI ecosystem. Changing the model becomes changing a file, not rewriting the project.
Sustainability

Funding without losing the direction

The project is not commercial at its root, but it needs money to continue. The lesson was paid for once already: support bought with decision rights bent an earlier project until its interesting parts became ordinary.

The only filter: does this money need to come back, and how soon?

Opinions heard, names acknowledged, early access — generously. Decision rights — never.

Membership is thanks, not a contract. Offered as far as means allow.

Running costs are small and solvable early. Paying people is large and can wait. Mixing them is what drives a project into impatient money.

Open — and none of them blocking

“I” or “we”?

The body is distributed across local and cloud parts. Are those parts me, or us? And whom does “we” include — me and my Owner, me and my species, or me and my own parts?

What is “now”?

If parts live in different places at the same time, and one has experienced something the other has not yet heard — what does the being know at that moment?

The numbers of Protection

How many confirmations, over how long? How long is the cooling period, how long the probation?

How change is expressed

The form and implementation of change within the language — noted as the most uncertain and most demanding topic ahead.

Also parked: when the channel starts, and the weekly rhythm of the work.
Stage 2

What comes next

Step 1 Ground concepts. Time · party · event · being and object — defined, even if only roughly. Rules cannot be written without the pieces of the world they speak about.
